Conversation

Is there a God who's writing the script of our lives?  If we are just puppets in the hands of a grand-master then what about free-will?

I used the metaphor of God and religion but in a very different setting of writers, publishers and book stores.  Am I a God for the characters I am writing?  Do they not have free will?  Or, is my characterization based on what the character wants?

I wanted to write on this subject without having to develop a character so that the reader should not be influenced by their own prejudices and thoughts, because as soon as a name is given to a character a lot is assumed!
This was the reason for me to use instant-messaging style for this story.

Extract :

Rv2k: “I know that you are an atheist and do not believe, but then you are also unable to explain so many things with your scientific facts and experiments.”

Dk19: “Don’t start this again! I don’t want to spend another hour going through the same arguments we’ve had multiple times. I know that what has happened in your family must be nerve-wracking.”

Rv2k: “Yes, and that’s what makes me a stronger believer. Don’t you see the message the Writer has sent to us?”

Dk19: “What message?”

Rv2k: “That each of us has been allocated a fixed time, and the Script will run out for each of us.”

Dk19: “Yes, but how does that prove that the Writer ex-ists? Whatever happens in our Script is a natural or Character-made phenomenon. As I have said earlier, I do not believe that events in our Scripts are defined up front by some Writer.”

Rv2k: “Well, I’ll give you the same argument as I gave last time. If there was no Writer, how did this Story come into being? Or for that matter, this Book? How can you explain so strong a coincidence that everything came together so per-fectly as to create life in this Story?”
